Butterfly Tenergy 19 – High Tension Rubber for Maximum Spin and Control
Butterfly Tenergy 19 is the latest high-tension, pimples-in table tennis rubber introduced in 2021 as the newest addition to the Tenergy series. Developed by combining High Tension technology with Spring Sponge, Tenergy 19 stands out with its unique pimple structure (Code No. 219), featuring smaller pimples packed as densely as ITTF regulations allow. This rubber delivers high spin, speed, and control while maintaining extended ball contact (dwell time), making it more controllable than other Tenergy rubbers. Suitable for both active and passive strokes—including powerful topspins, counter-topspins, short strokes, and chops—Tenergy 19 is a favorite among professional players such as Kanak Jha, Kirill Gerassimenko, Marcelo Aguirre, and Gustavo Tsuboi. Made in Japan and ITTF approved, it is the ideal choice for players seeking top-tier performance with maximum control when playing with 40+ plastic balls.

Advanced Construction Balancing Spin, Speed, and Control:

Sponge (36°): The medium-hard (36° Butterfly scale, ~48° ESN scale) Spring Sponge is bright orange and offers a unique combination of elasticity and flexibility. Its air-bubble structure absorbs incoming energy and releases it as extra power while extending dwell time. Compared to Tenergy 05 Hard (43°), Tenergy 19's softer sponge provides more forgiveness and control, yet retains enough firmness for strong strokes. It ensures a stable bounce and a controlled feel for various shots.

Tacky Top Sheet: Slightly tacky and high in friction, the top sheet is optimized for spin. It grips the ball effectively, reducing slippage and allowing for powerful topspin, backspin, and sidespin. Compared to Sriver FX, it is far tackier, and the extended contact time makes it less sensitive to incoming spin than Tenergy 05. Durable and wear-resistant, the surface requires regular cleaning to maintain its grip.

Pimple Geometry: The Code No. 219 pimples are thinner (1.5 mm) and packed as densely as ITTF rules allow. Designed for optimal speed (84/100), spin (75/100), and trajectory (78/100), their unique shape—selected from Butterfly's proprietary “spin and speed-enhancing designs”—maximizes ball contact, generating high spin and stability. Compared to Tenergy 05, the thinner, denser pimples of Tenergy 19 increase dwell time, improving control on opening loops, counter-topspins, short play, and blocks. This structure also resists deformation during impact, offering more consistency against opponent attacks.

High Tension Technology: Factory-pre-tensioned rubber boosts elasticity and speed without additional boosters. Combined with the Spring Sponge, it delivers a lively yet controlled feel, allowing players to finely adjust power and spin. Tenergy 19 is slightly faster than Tenergy 05 but offers more control due to its extended contact time.

Spring Sponge Technology: Introduced in 2008, this technology combines flexibility and resilience, absorbing energy and releasing it during impact. Paired with No. 219 pimples, it enhances the “ball-holding” sensation, especially during counter-topspins and banana flicks, guiding the ball along the racket’s swing path.

Sponge Thickness Options:
1.7 mm – Maximum control, ideal for backhand
1.9 mm – Balanced performance
2.1 mm – Aggressive forehand attacks

The rubber weighs around ~49 g (cut), same as Tenergy 05 (~49 g) and lighter than Hurricane 3 NEO (~53 g). Available in red and black to meet ITTF standards. Butterfly recommends Free Chack II glue for optimal bonding.

Performance Profile – Designed for Spin-Oriented, Controlled Playstyles:

Speed – 84/100: Very fast, perfect for powerful topspins, counter-topspins, and third-ball attacks at or away from the table. Slightly faster than Tenergy 05 (83/100) with more power, but longer dwell time gives better control. Much faster than Sriver (38/100), ideal for aggressive rallies.

Spin – 75/100: Generates heavy spin on loops, serves, and pushes thanks to its tacky top sheet and dense pimple design. Slightly less spin than Tenergy 05 (76/100), but easier to generate spin due to longer dwell time. Drastically more spin than Tackiness Chop II (30/100), making it perfect for offensive players.

Control: While not numerically rated, the extended contact from the dense pimple design and Spring Sponge provides high control during looping, blocking, short play, and chops. Compared to Tenergy 05, it is less sensitive to incoming spin and more forgiving, making it suitable for a wider range of players.

Trajectory – 78/100: Medium-high arc, great for looping and countering near the table or mid-distance. The arc is slightly lower than Tenergy 05 (79/100) but higher than Tenergy 64, offering safety over the net and stable control. Players praise its “control,” “spin potential,” and “safety” on topspin and short shots.

Ideal Blade Pairings – Recommended for blades that emphasize speed, spin, and control:
Butterfly Timo Boll ALC – Maximum power and spin, favored by pros
Butterfly Viscaria – Balanced speed and feel, ideal for aggressive looping
Butterfly Innerforce Layer ZLC – Maximum feel, perfect for technique development
Butterfly Hadraw SK – Extra stability, ideal for counter-attacks close to the table
Butterfly Diode V – Great for defensive play with controlled topspins and chops

Also compatible with wooden or carbon blades like Nittaku Acoustic, where Spring Sponge adds feeling and High Tension boosts blade speed. Users recommend using Tenergy 19 on the forehand with 2.1 mm sponge for maximum speed and spin, or on the backhand with 1.7 mm or 1.9 mm for better control and quick counters.

Butterfly Tenergy 19 is designed for players seeking spin, speed, and control:

• For intermediate to advanced attackers with strong loop and counterloop skills
• For professional players like Kanak Jha and Gustavo Tsuboi, using it on either wing
• For defenders wanting versatility on the forehand for controlled chops and attacks
