Butterfly Tenergy 25 – High-Tension Table Tennis Rubber for Aggressive Play at the Table
Butterfly Tenergy 25 is a high-tension, pimples-in table tennis rubber designed for aggressive and controlled shots close to the table. Combining High Tension technology and Spring Sponge, Tenergy 25 stands out due to its unique pimple structure with larger, densely arranged pimples. This enables powerful spin generation and fast counter-attacking shots. Ideal for players who dominate at the table with banana flicks, counter-topspins, over-the-table shots, and smashes, while maintaining precision from mid-distance. Made in Japan and ITTF approved, Tenergy 25 is a top choice for players seeking powerful, spin-heavy strokes with high arc, especially when playing with 40+ plastic balls.

Advanced Construction for Spin, Speed, and Control:

Sponge (36°)
The medium-hard Spring Sponge (36° on Butterfly's scale, around 48° on ESN) is vivid orange and combines flexibility with high elasticity. Its bubble-filled structure absorbs incoming ball energy and releases it as additional power during the shot, increasing dwell time. Compared to Tenergy 05 Hard (43°), Tenergy 25’s sponge is softer, offering more forgiveness and control while still providing enough firmness for dynamic shots—ideal for consistent bounce in counters and table attacks.

Tacky Top Sheet
The slightly tacky top sheet provides maximum friction and excellent spin. It grips the ball well, reducing slippage and enabling strong topspin, backspin, and sidespin. Compared to Sriver FX, it’s far tackier and optimized for fast table shots. Less sensitive to incoming spin than Tenergy 05. It’s durable and wear-resistant but requires regular cleaning to maintain grip.

Pimple Geometry
The uniquely coded, large-diameter, densely packed pimples are optimized for speed (64/100), spin (76/100), and arc (86/100). This geometry—chosen from over 200 tested Butterfly pimple shapes—produces a dynamic attack, excelling in spin generation. Compared to Tenergy 05, Tenergy 25’s larger pimples are better suited for fast, close-to-the-table shots like banana flicks and counter-topspins rather than mid-distance loops. They also offer strong stability for blocks and hits.

High Tension Technology
The top sheet is factory-tensioned for enhanced elasticity and speed without boosters. Combined with Spring Sponge, it provides a lively yet controlled feel, allowing players to finely tune power and spin. Tenergy 25 delivers explosive energy for close-range attacks without the need for speed glue or additives.

Spring Sponge Technology
Introduced in 2008, Spring Sponge absorbs energy like a spring and releases it upon contact, enabling high spin and stable bounce throughout the rubber’s life. Especially effective for spin-based shots like banana flicks and counter-topspins.

Thickness & Weight:

Available in 1.7 mm, 1.9 mm, and 2.1 mm:

  • 1.7 mm – maximum control, ideal for backhand

  • 1.9 mm – balanced play

  • 2.1 mm – aggressive forehand attacks

Cut weight is ~49g (similar to Tenergy 05, lighter than Hurricane 3 NEO at ~53g). Available in red and black, ITTF-compliant. Recommended glue: Butterfly Free Chack II.

Technical Specs Tailored for Close-to-the-Table Offense:

Speed – 64/100
Medium-speed rubber suitable for fast counter-attacks, banana flicks, smashes, and close-range topspins. Slower than Tenergy 05 (83/100), but prioritizes precision and control. Faster than Sriver (38/100), ideal for dynamic strokes.

Spin – 76/100
Generates strong spin on topspins, serves, and pushes due to tacky surface and larger pimples. Comparable to Tenergy 19 (75/100) but optimized for faster spin strokes like banana flicks. Much spinnier than Tackiness Chop II (30/100), making it ideal for offensive players.

Control
Not numerically rated, but Spring Sponge and larger pimples offer high control for blocks, short play, smashes, and counter-topspins. Compared to Tenergy 05, it is less sensitive to incoming spin, allowing more forgiveness in fast rallies.

Arc – 86/100
High, curved trajectory ideal for topspins, over-the-table shots, and counter-flicks. Higher arc than Tenergy 19 (78/100), offering good net clearance. Lower than Tenergy 05 Hard (92/100), making it better suited for close play than far-distance looping. Users highlight the rubber’s control, spin potential, and accuracy, especially in attacking and counter-attacking scenarios.

Recommended Blade Pairings:

  • Butterfly Viscaria – Balanced speed and feel, ideal for aggressive play

  • Butterfly Amultart – Offers stability for counter-topspins

  • Butterfly Apolonia ZLC – Maximizes speed, ideal for technical players

  • Butterfly Zhang Jike T5000 – Maximum power, suited for attackers

  • Butterfly Innerforce Layer ALC – Great feeling, versatile play

Also pairs well with stiff carbon blades like Nittaku Violin Carbon, where Spring Sponge adds control and High Tension draws out blade speed. Users recommend:

  • Forehand: 2.1 mm for max spin and speed

  • Backhand: 1.7 or 1.9 mm for more control and quick counters

Ideal For:

  • Intermediate to advanced attackers skilled in counter-topspins, banana flicks, over-the-table smashes, and hits

  • Players who dominate near the table but want efficiency from mid-distance

  • Technical players seeking a rubber suited for fast, spin-heavy strokes on either forehand or backhand

  • Close-to-the-table play: Effective in opening topspins, counters, banana flicks, blocks, smashes, and short strokes
